Technology
Computers have become more powerful as the major chip manufacturers are making processors which can accommodate more transistors on a single die. Intel and AMD are continuously updating their technology to make the desktops to load and run any application at a lightning speed. Intel's core 2 Duo and AMD's Dual core processors are some of the examples. Dual core means having two cores in a single die, each is capable of its own processing capability with a high speed bus connectivity to the main memory. Cache memory size is also growing as the technology grows. Cache memory size is very important for the performance. For those who do not understand the cache memory concept it is like taking out cash from one's wallet instead of going to bank and getting the cash after making a purchase. The delay is avoided as the data to be processed is available in the memory which is within the processor die. If the external memory has to be accessed there is a wait time involved and it is like driving on the road with signals in between to reach the destination. Intel is also into developing various chipsets on the motherboard like server motherboards, workstation motherboards and desktop motherboards. It is like when the engine of the vehicle is powerful even the wheel and the chassis have to be sturdy. Other factor about the latest technology is less power consumption.
